    Two independent envelopes in one Eurorack module, which are accurate clones of the Minimoog's envelope generators. Each unit can be used as an AD or ADSD envelope. 

    AJH Synth stayed close to the original when designing the envelopes, even the internal operational voltages have been taken into consideration. The retrigger behaviour of the transistor based envelopes is special, because when re-triggering the envelope, it did't restart at 0V but at the momentary voltage. At longer decay settings the envelope got louser and louder, up to 10.5V. 

    The Minimoog envelopes had three parameters only: attack, decay and sustain. The release was switchable and it's length was determined by the decay parameter. You could use them either as attack-decay envelopes or attack-decay-sustain-decay. In the Dual Countour module this is selectable per envelope. 
    The envelopes can be fired manually with buttons.

    Ring Modulator - Sub Bass generator and Mixer 

    The RING SM module is quite unique because its ring modulator circuit is based on a discrete transistor AC coupled Gilbert Cell design dating back to the early 1960's. The overload and distortion characteristics are rather different and more musically useful. There´s a third Z input in addition to the usual Carrier (X) and Modulator (Y) inputs seen on other ring modulator designs. The Z Input is actually a second modulator input that has a different phase relationship with the ring modulator core and it can produce a more resonant sound when it is used. All three inputs (X, Y, and Z) can be used simultaneously. 

    The “Double” switch connects the X (carrier) input to the Y (modulator) input, so that if a Sine wave or Triangle wave is applied to the X Input then this will be doubled and the RM output will be one octave higher than the X input - no Y input is necessary for this to be generated. 

    There are two independant Sub Bass Generators: 
    Sub Bass -1 produces a shaped sinewave output one octave below the waveform applied to the X IN Input. Sub Bass -2 produces a shaped sinewave output two octaves below the waveform applied to the X IN Input. 
    The Sub Bass waveforms are not square waves but vary from a trapezoid wave with rounded edges at lower frequencies to sine like waveforms at higher frequencies and are useful up to 1kHz. They have a much lower harmonic content than regular square wave subs, they have been specifically designed sit much better in a mix and appear to have more drive and punch. 

    Also included is a five input, DC coupled mixer based on the discrete transistor CP3 modular design dating back to the early 1970’s. This uses discrete transistors rather than integrated circuits for the mixer core, because of its negative feedback loop and virtual ground circuit topology it actually performs quite well in this role, with no interaction between inputs and relatively low distortion - until it is overdriven. 
    The mixer inputs are IN 1, IN2, IN3, IN4 and IN5 jack sockets - however, when there is no patch lead inserted into these Input jack sockets the outputs of the Ring Modulator and Sub Bass Generators are automatically routed (normalised) through the mixer internally. Plugging a patch cable into any of the mixer inputs defeats the normalising for that particular input and allows it to be used as a regular mixer for both audio and control voltages. 

    Because the mixer section is DC coupled, it can be used to mix control voltages in addition to just audio signals, or it can even mix both audio and control voltages simultaneously, which allows it to be used as an asymmetric distortion module.

    In just 6HP two Minimoog circuits are integrated; the transistor noise with three timbres and the glide generator with it's unique characteristic. 

    The noise-generating transistors are hand selected and analyzed to ensure that the noise has the same timbre as in the Minimoog. furthermore the noise is filtered with other transistors in order to producre red and pink noise. 

    In the Minimoog the Glide had a very unconventional, slightly exponential characteristic and the gliding up was significantly faster than gliding down. This behaviour was faithfully recreated in the Glide + noise module. The circuitry was expanded by a mode switch that determines if it glides up only, down only or in both directions. 
    A specialty of the Mini was taken over: the glide does not work constantly but it's being activated only when a key is depressed. For this reason the module has a HOLD gate input which makes it possible to gate the glide activity, be it with a sequencer for 303-ish sildes or how ever you like. With the on/off switch the glide can be completely deactivated.

    Accurate clone of the transistor VCA from the early Minimoog. To be exact it's a cascaded dual VCA, as the Minimoog had two, connected in series. Use the first for distortion and the second as master VCA. 

    This VCA module has two audio inputs with attenuators. For the first VCA you can jumper-select a high-gain mode which causes the circuit to overdrive.     Faithful analog emulation of the VCO from the very first series of the Minimoog of which ca. 300 units have been built. Just like the original also the module is built entirely discrete with transistors, yet due to improved cicruitry the really aweful temperature stability of the Mk1-Minimoog is history. The sound is the same and the module features some modifications like PWM. 

    This VCO is surely not only interesting for hardcore Minimoog fans because it offers all of Minimoog's waveforms at individual outputs, also the "sharktooth" wave. 
    There are two selectable types of sync with controllable intensity. Besides exponential FM we also find linear FM. An other addition is the manually and voltage controllable pulse width modulation; it wasn't implemented in the minimoog and you were only able to select between fixed pulse widths. 
    The octave switch allows for setting the VCO in LFO mode and with negative CVs at the inputs it can oscillate pretty slowly. 
    The module can read internal CVs via the Doepfer Buss as long as no cable is inserted to the 1V/octave input. 

    The VCO is not oriented on later Minimoogs which partially used op-amps or transistor arrays with FET amplifiers - no, in this case the very early and rare Minimoogs are of interest which had tranistor based VCOs. The bad temperature stability which was caused by a design flaw in the CV summing stage was revised by AJH Synth. That means the oscillator sounds like it's supposed to and it's frequency remains stable. The transistors' specifications and values for resistors and capacitors are original.

AJH Synth added voltage control of reconance and selectable overdrive. 

    -24dB/octave steep low pass filter with Moog's famous patented transistor cascade; like on early Minimoogs the transistors are entirely hand-selected for the sake of a better sound. The circuitry runs internally on exactly the same supply voltages and the transistors have the same specifications as 45 years ago, not being SMD types like the rest of the parts. 
    The resonance has been made voltage controllable with to a opto-electronic part, a vactrol. Unlike other vactrols this one can react on very fast voltage changes and allows for audio modulation. 
    For modulating the cutoff frequency there are not only the 1V/octave input but also sockets with1/3 and 2/3 volt per octave characteristic which simulate the Minimoog's keyboard tracking switches. The controllable exponential CV input is 30% more sensitive than the 1V/octave input and can be over-modulated. 

    It's nice to see the filter has three audio inputs with level controls which save you a mixer. Using a jumper you can change the behavoiur of the input stage and make it overdrive substantially.

    The Sonic XV Eurorack module is a four pole Diode Ladder Filter, featuring the circuitry and sound of the Musonics Sonic V synthesiser, which has a quite different character from transistor ladder filters. In addition to the regular 24dB Low Pass output we have added a 6dB Low Pass output and a Bandpass output, along with full voltage control of the resonance.

    Two waveshapers have been added to hugely increase the sonic versatility of this module. There is a breakpoint based wavefolder on the input, with drive level that can be manually adjusted or voltage contolled. A bias control switch allows extra waveshape variations.

    A second waveshaper is connected to the resonance circuit, which adds distortion and waveshaping to the resonance loop signal, again the drive can be adjusted manually or under full voltage control. A wet/dry mix control allows resonance waveshaping to be added from 0 to 100%.

    These additions take the diode ladder fllter core way beyond it’s original function, it becomes a “filter” module that can add harmonics and shape waveforms rather than simply filtering them. With four independant CV inputs very complex filtering and waveshaping sounds become possible.
